Department of Labor will celebrate benefits of Registered Apprenticeships as valuable pathway to good jobs during first Youth Apprenticeship Week WASHINGTON – The Department of Labor today announced that the nation will celebrate the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships and the opportunities they create for youth and young adults with 320 special events and more than 70 proclamations scheduled across the U.S. to mark the first annual Youth Apprenticeship Week from May 5-11. Built on the success of National Apprenticeship Week, Youth Apprenticeship Week will give employers, unions, educators, state agencies, workforce partners, community-based organizations and other Registered Apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase their programs and successes in youth apprenticeships. The annual commemoration also offers youth apprentices a platform on which they can share their apprenticeship experiences and educate the public about the benefits of local youth apprenticeship programs.

The Notification of Construction Contract Award Portal provides users with a more efficient and secure way to submit required information about contract awards, including the contract’s effective date. “By creating this portal, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs is making it easier for contracting officers and contractors to

Ohio contractor again found defying federal safety requirements, continues 11-year history of exposing roofers to deadly fall hazards AKRON, OH – A Dundee contractor with a long history of federal workplace safety violations has added an additional $228,126 in fines to $108,318 in unpaid penalties with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration for again exposing workers to potential deadly fall hazards, this time at an Akron job site. OSHA inspectors observed two employees of Benny Troyer Roofing and Trail Roofing LLC working at heights of up to 20 feet above the ground without adequate fall protection while Troyer was on-site at an Akron home under construction. US Department of Labor twice finds Suamico general contractor exposing workers to potentially deadly fall hazards; proposes $37K in fine

US Department of Labor twice finds Suamico general contractor exposing workers to potentially deadly fall hazards; proposes $37K in fine SUAMICO, WI – On a chilly March morning, a federal workplace safety inspector observed five roofers atop a Wrightstown residence, working at heights up to 23 feet without required fall protection. The inspector later found the fall protection equipment piled in a bucket on the ground next to a work truck.    A month later, another inspector observed three workers without adequate fall protection on a roof in Seymour. When asked about the risks, the foreman claimed the crew had begun the shift with required fall protection equipment, but they later removed it so as not to slow their work. An OSHA inspector found required safety harnesses in a bucket on the ground as roofers worked without protection atop a Wrightstown residence. In both instances, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration found Overhead Solutions Inc

US Department of Labor proposes $1.3M in penalties for metro-area roofing contractor after second employee suffers fatal fall in 3 years TARRYTOWN, NY – A Nanuet roofing and siding contractor with a significant history of safety violations and penalties now faces an additional $1,343,363 in penalties after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated another fatal fall by a company employee, the second in three years. OSHA opened an inspection of ALJ Home Improvement Inc. on Feb. 8, 2022, when a worker fell from the roof of a three-story residential construction project in Spring Valley. In February 2019, another company employee died in a fall at a Kiamesha Lake work site.  The agency determined that ALJ failed to provide fall protection training or ensure effective fall protection safeguards were used. They also failed to provide eye protection for employees using pneumatic nail guns, exposing them to the risk of serious eye injuries. The
