Department of Labor will celebrate benefits of Registered Apprenticeships as valuable pathway to good jobs during first Youth Apprenticeship Week WASHINGTON – The Department of Labor today announced that the nation will celebrate the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships and the opportunities they create for youth and young adults with 320 special events and more than 70 proclamations scheduled across the U.S. to mark the first annual Youth Apprenticeship Week from May 5-11. Built on the success of National Apprenticeship Week, Youth Apprenticeship Week will give employers, unions, educators, state agencies, workforce partners, community-based organizations and other Registered Apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase their programs and successes in youth apprenticeships. The annual commemoration also offers youth apprentices a platform on which they can share their apprenticeship experiences and educate the public about the benefits of local youth apprenticeship programs.

US Department of Labor finds Trenton contractor again exposing workers to falls, this time at Mahwah, Upper Saddle River, River Vale work sites TRENTON, NJ -The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a Trenton roofing contractor with a history of exposing workers to potentially deadly falls, after inspections at three worksites where the employer again intentionally failed to protect workers from falls as they installed roofs in Mahwah, Upper Saddle River, and River Vale. As part of its Local Emphasis Programs on falls in construction, OSHA opened an inspection on March 18, 2022, at a Mahwah worksite of Guelsin Lima, operating as Extreme Roofing and Siding LLC, after observing a worker working on a roof without fall protection. In three subsequent inspections, OSHA determined that Lima failed to provide fall protection and head and/or eye protection for workers installing roofing shingles.  The agency issued Lima citations for four willful a

US Department of Labor invites Florida’s highway construction industry employers to join survey to set accurate prevailing wage rates ATLANTA – The U.S. Department of Labor is asking Florida highway construction industry employers to participate in a survey to help the department’s Wage and Hour Division establish prevailing wage rates, as required by federal law. The Davis-Bacon and Related Acts direct the department to set the prevailing wage rates that reflect the actual wages and fringe benefits paid to construction workers in the county where the work takes place. The department encourages all stakeholders to participate in the survey which includes active highway construction projects in all counties in Florida where construction occurred between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022 and is not limited to federally funded construction projects.
